Two weeks ago, my sugar/chocolate addiction pushed it’s limits. I had to get rid of it and since going ‘cold turkey’ has never been an effective measure to get off something ‘for good’, I knew I had to ‘add in’ a bunch of ‘good stuff’ to forgo ‘the bad stuff’. Using the idea that no one ever became addicted to maple syrup, dates, or agave, I did it.
I know what healthy desserts look like, I have a page dedicated to them on this blog. However, the bag of chocolate chips was all too easy to grab. I forced my hand and threw out all of the candy, sugar, and chocolate that had accumulated in our pantry from baby showers, brunches, and last years ‘labor stash’. I was finally ready to whip up the ‘good stuff’.
I started with chocolate mousse. Specifically, Chocolate Avocado Mousse. It’s not the kind you remember from your childhood with instant pudding, milk, and cool whip. Or the kind you may have had at a fancy dinner party with heavy whipping cream, egg yolks, dark chocolate, vanilla, and sugar. It’s the kind that comes from avocados, bananas, almond butter, cacao, dates, and just a pinch of salt. It’s stuff I could eat every day and feel great about it. It’s ‘good stuff.’
It’s been 2 weeks and I don’t miss sugar, candy, or chocolate. It feels so good to be free.
