Paleo Nutella from ECISNP

Today, we have a post from Kylie at “Clean Eating Is the New Pink“. Kylie took up a huge part of my childhood. We would go sledding in my back yard and play cops and robbers in my Mcdonalds Kitchenette. I’ve never had so much fun playing with fake burgers and mini softserve than I have as an 8 yr. old. Every child needs a Mcdonalds kitchenette-I’m convinced. She’s an amazing mom, wife, and nutritional therapist who found her way to health after being diagnosed with Crohns Disease at the age of twelve.

She’s a walking inspiration of how choosing the right foods for your body can truly change your life.

I wish I could say I found my passion for real foods at age 12 when I was diagnosed with a pretty severe case of crohns disease, But, unfortunately, it took another 9 years. The symptoms hit overnight and I started looking like a skeleton. We tried everything the doctors recommended and I still had no lasting solutions.

Young, scared and tired of feeling like I was 75, I had given up on the idea of ever having a normal life. My parents were THOUSANDS of dollars in debt with my medical bills and there was still no hope in sight.

After the course of a 9 year battle, fate dealt it’s hand. I discovered the powers of holistic healing through a multitude of unexpected events; and I haven’t looked back.

I have now been medicine free for almost four years and I am happy and vibrant as ever. I was able to healthily bring my first child into the world and have kept him healthy by real foods despite the fact that I was never able to breast feed!

Paleo Nutella by Clean Eating Is the New Pink

I believe in sacrafice. I believe in elimination. I believe in going without. But I don’t believe in a world without nutella. That being said, I completely believe in a world without processed sugar. So what’s a girl to do when she’s faced with a love for the classic eurpean hazelnut spread and a distaste for all things processed? She innovates!

I will never stop making this recipe. Is it 100% the same? No. Is it pretty darn delicious? Yes. Yes. Yes.

This recipe really is so simple; especially if you don’t have to blanch your own hazelnuts!


Paleo and Vegan Nutella


  • 1 C blanched hazelnuts* (if you can't find blanched, see instructions on how to blanch your own below)
  • 1/2 C Almond milk (coconut or cow milk will work as well)
  • 1/2 Coconut sugar
  • 1/4 Carob powder (or unsweetened cocoa powder)
  • 2 T coconut oil
  • pinch of sea salt


  • 1. Put blanched hazelnuts in food processor or blender and blend until it becomes the consistency of peanut butter.
  • 2. Add remaining ingredients and blend until smooth, creamy and well mixed.
  • 3. Eat on everything.
  • To blanch hazelnuts preheat oven to 350. Spread hazelnuts in a thin layer on cookie sheet. Put in preheated oven for 10-15 minutes or until skins look loose and crispy. Once done, add to a bowl. Cover bowl with another bowl the same size, pinch together and shake rapidly for 3-5 minutes. Most of the skins should have fallen off at this point. 🙂 You don't need every little peice of skin off, just most. 🙂
